I AGREE 100% with Mike Hooper's letter of October 30. I am disgusted that the council have decided to ban dog owners in the Courtlands Road area from letting their dogs off their leads in the park. I have been letting my dog run around free there for nine years (before it was filled with children's play constructions). Locals call this the haunted park because it's hardly ever used by children; indeed I've just come back from there with my dog now and on a sunny Sunday lunchtime at 12.15pm — the place is totally empty as it is when I walk my dog late afternoons and evenings; there are more dog owners that use the park than children. I am particularly upset because my dog is very old and can't walk more than a few hundred yards and gets distressed in the car so to be let off in this space is his only bit of freedom. If the council is going to insist on these ridiculous Dog Control Orders putting a block on the only free space near to my house I insist that it fences off a third of the area for dogs to run free; this space is huge so there is plenty of room. I've just come back from a visit to London and there are many more places dogs can run free than down here in the so-called 'countryside'. Julie Austen Glanville Road Tavistock
