TIME is running out for individuals and organisations to get their applications in to a special grants scheme aimed at projects to help local communities.
The Tarka Country Millennium Awards scheme is reaching its final phase and can now only fund projects in the Tarka Country area, including West Devon, which can be completed in 2003.
The scheme is run by the Tarka Country Trust and partially funded by National Lottery money through the Millennium Commission.
Awards vary depending on the type of project, but on average are between £2,000 and £4,000.
They can be used to pay for expenses of the project, for example, travel, equipment, insurance or training.
Examples of schemes which have already attracted grants include production of a leaflet of local walks, a community garden, research into local history, golden jubilee events and the setting up of an organic vegetable growing co-operative.
Carin Cross, team leader for the scheme, said: ?If you are an individual who has an idea that will benefit a
community in the Tarka Country area, the Tarka Country Millennium Awards could be the scheme that puts your idea into action.
?If you are an individual with an idea and are not sure if you are eligible for funding, please contact us and we will be happy to help,? she said.
?Remember, these awards are to benefit local individuals.?
