TAVISTOCK Town Council is appealling for the public's help in catching vandals who have been tearing down notices about dog walking in the Meadows.

Strict controls have been put in place as to where people can exercise their dogs, and metal notices have been put up at all entrances to the Meadows to inform dog owners — but in just three days ten of the notices have been ripped down and thrown away.

Town Clerk Roger Howard said: 'It's a constant battle. These are metal signs and they are securely fixed, so the vandalism is not a spur of the moment thing. People must be leaving home with equipment and with the intention of tearing them down. It's very frustrating.'

The rules say that dogs must be on a lead on the canal side of the River Tavy, and on the Pixon Lane side, in Benson's Meadow, dogs may be let off the lead. But in all cases owners must clear up any mess made by dogs.

In addition, dog warden patrols have been stepped up.

The town council says anyone seeing the vandals at work should report it to the police, and rewards may be available if it leads to a conviction.
