North Devon 2
Tavistock 1st XI 5
HAVING beaten ECV Hornets in a nail-biting first round of the play-offs, Tavistock Hockey Club men's first team travelled to Jersey for some welcome relaxation and recuperation in preparation for the match against North Devon. The annual tour proved to be a worthwhile break and preparation for the final match of the season.
Tavistock started the brighter and looked the more dangererous. They began to amass what was to be a heavy short corner tally.
Against the run of play North Devon scored but it was to be the last time they held the lead. Tavistock, the team who were the most hungry, maintained the onslaught and equalised within minutes.
Tavistock did not manage to create the scoreline that the domination reflected. Only within the last 15 minutes did they finally break down the physical North Devon side and end the game by securing promotion to South Division 2.
A fantastic, all round performance by the team, with great thanks to the leadership of Kevin Lethbridge, who has completed the development that was started by Nick Aveyard.
New players are welcome and should contact captains through the website tavistock-hockey.co.uk
Tavistock Hockey Club's annual meeting is to be held at the Ordulph Arms, Thursday April 29 at 7.30pm. All club members are encouraged to attend.
