THE public's views are being sought over the continuing development of Fairplace Gardens in Okehampton. A call has gone out from all four of Okehampton's West Devon borough councillors for members of the public to tell them how they would like the work taking place at Fairplace Gardens to proceed. Work on developing the gardens, including the installation of railings, began last month, but has since stopped after concerns were raised by borough and town councillors that the building work was markedly different to the details of the plans. Okehampton's borough councillors say they are united in this matter and are seeking a resolution that the townspeople want. So far the options on the table are to keep the railings as they are, to paint the railings green, in keeping with the railings in Simmons Park, or to remove the railings completely. Views should be expressed directly to the borough councillors — Christine Marsh, Edna Hicks, Ken Williams or John Young. Alternatively, people can make their opinion known through the West Devon Borough Council customer service centre offices in Okehampton's St James Street.
