I WAS driving to Totnes across the moors on Saturday lunchtime, when all of a sudden three fox hounds shot out in front of my car. I had to brake sharply and narrowly missed hitting them. The car behind me was lucky not to crash into me as they were travelling quite close behind. If I hadn't been paying attention to the road and doing the speed limit, the hounds would have come to a sad end and I would have been really upset to have hit them with my car. Why is the pack allowed to run all over the place, around farmers' livestock, endangering motorists? There seemed to be dogs scattered all over the place and riders also riding up the middle of the road, causing the traffic to stop while they went on hunting. They didn't even wave as most riders do when you slow down for them. The dogs were not under control, as they were everywhere and running into traffic. It seems unfair that a pet dog could be shot for worrying sheep, but a fox hound is allowed to nearly cause a pile up and run between the animals without restriction. I hope the fox got away!
