TASTY treats were on offer at the Bedford Hotel in Tavistock last week, as it played host to a cake and coffee morning to support local people with learning difficulties.
The event was to raise money and awareness of ROC Welcome Tavistock — a social opportunity charity for people with learning disabilities.
The array of cakes were made by the hotel's new executive chef Mike Palmer, formerly of Browns Hotel.
Mike, who grew up in Princetown, was keen to help the charity.
He said: 'I'm familiar with a lot of the people that the charity supports, and recall growing up with them.
'I realise how important the charity's support is to members. We are also delighted that the Two Bridges Hotel is donating a prize to one person who is holding a cake party, which will be worth £250 and will be drawn at random.'
Jane Anning, ROC Welcome Tavistock manger, said: 'The money raised will give us the opportunity to go further into the community with social activities and to explore the community further afield such as visiting Plymouth.'
Simon Rowe, manager of the Bedford Hotel, said that the money raised from the event will help fund a trip to the Theatre Royal for ROC Welcome Tavistock members.
Calvin Lovelock of ROC expressed thanks to the Bedford Hotel: 'We're hugely grateful to Simon and his colleagues who have been really supportive of the charity from the start.
'We are now asking the people of Tavistock to host parties at their businesses, schools or homes, to help raise funds and awareness for local people with learning disabilities.
'We are looking forward to developing relationships with the Tavistock community in the future.' The event raised £142.32 for ROC.
