TAVISTOCK Sir Francis Drake Bowling Club, men?s league team played two matches last week and achieved the very rare distinction of scoring a ?hot shot? in both matches. On Tuesday the men faced Dean Cross in a home match which Tavistock won 83-71. Highlight of the match was a rare hot shot for skip Clive Jago, and crew of Der Saunders, Ernie Piper and Barry Chappell, who scored all eight shots on the first end of a contest which they went on to win 18-15. Skip Roy Northam and squad of Bill Ashe, Mike Silcox and Harvey Leach won 25-14, after a second half rally. Skip Mike Allen and his team of Norman Paramor, Vic Stacey and Derek Bradford won 21-20. Skip Malcolm Bloomer and team of John Smith, David Perry and Brian Davis lost 19-21. Wednesday saw a two rink ladies league team facing visitors Plymstock Bees. The match ended as a 35-51 defeat for the ladies, after they lost 17-28 on one rink and 18-23 on the other. The ladies? next league fixture was Thursday?s away match against Plymouth Civil Service Reds. Tavistock won 63-28 after winning both rinks, with skip Yvonne Meneer and her team of Sue Silcox, Shirley Blackburn and Betty Browse notching up a 31-14 win and skip Marion Allen leading her crew of Marlene Paramor, Anne Brown and Henny Bawden to a 32-14 victory. Tavistock men won Thursday?s Evening League match against Yealmpton, 96-93, thanks to skip Roy Northam and his squad of Mike Felles, Bill Ashe and Mike Silcox scoring the second ?hot shot? of the week and winning their rink 34-13. Skip Clive Jago and his crew of Der Saunders, Barry Chappell and Ernie Piper won 28-27, while skip Mike Allen and team of Clifford Hicks, Vic Stacey and Norman Paramor went down 19-24 and skip Malcolm Bloomer saw his team of George Blackburn, John Smith and David Perry lose 15-29. Saturday saw a Tavistock mixed team facing Ipplepen Bowling Club in a home fixture which ended as a convincing 117-69 win for Tavistock after they won four of the five rinks played. Skip Valerie Southern and crew of Gerald Worth, Charlie Cummings and Gordon Northey won 18-13; while skip Roy Northam led his squad of Wendy Bloomer, Albert Townsend and Lauri Smith to a convincing 27-12 victory. Skip Der Saunders ably assisted by Mike Felles, Freda Isaac and John Timmings won 26-10 after restricting their opposition to scoring on only five of the 21 ends played. Skip Malcolm Bloomer and his squad of Roy Gill, Mike Silcox and Joan Northey went down 16-18 after their opposition won the last five ends of the game.
