TAVISTOCK Squash Team played away at Dartington and encountered a much strengthened side from two years ago when they last visited the attractive surroundings.
First on court for Tavistock, Pete Walshe, put up a valiant fight against Roger Sands of Dartington but lost out 3-1.
Playing at number four Stuart Cox of Tavistock found his earlier good form deserted him against Kevin Throgmorton with Stuart going down 9-4, 9-2, 9-4 to the younger man.
Tavistock had to concede the next match.
Next on court for Tavistock, Tim Wallis lost to Graham Waites of Dartington 9-7, 9-5, 9-10, 10-9.
It was up to Andy Gauler to salvage some pride for Tavistock, which he achieved admirably by beating Dartington number one, Pete Beard, in a close 3-2 victory.
Recovering from flu, Andy played some of his best squash in years, with some accurate low forehand drives and boasts.
Dartington took the honours 4-1, and the Tavistock team will have to dig deep to maintain their league position of last season.

l AFTER a shaky start to the season Tavistock travelled to Newton Abbott with a full strength team.
In his first match of the season Peter Middleton was not up for a long game and after an early wake-up call of a couple of contentious decisions won 9/3 9/6 9/3 at no.5.
Stuart Cox was in more generous mood, losing the first game 8/10 before finding form and winning the next three 9/3 9/4 9/3. Colin Grice won a relaxing 9/1 9/2 9/5 victory.
Captain Wallis tried to inject life into the tie with an entertaining first game that saw the two veterans running around like spring chickens, with Tim winning the first 10/9. Brian lost his way and Tim returned to his customary style to run out the next two games 9/1 9/0.
With a possible maximum score on the card Andy Gauler set about beating Rob Mudeman into submission. Andy ground out the first two games before succumbing to a change of marker and pace of the game to lose 9/5 9/3 7/9 0/9 4/9.
This week Tavistock travel to Exeter Golf and Country for what promises to be a tighter match.
