LAST month was a busy time for the Bratton Clovelly-based charity Devon Aid Korogwe (DAK).

Supporters enjoyed a host of events, including an evening at Buckland House, with music and songs, as well as a hot supper, which raised £1,238.

Following this, the charity held its annual wine and wisdom evening in Bratton Clovelly Parish Hall, which welcomed a record breaking number of teams and raised £1,018.

A social event with a difference was held in Cookbury Parish Church, with local school children's written thoughts about poverty on display for guests.

A tasty lunch was also enjoyed, along with a presentation in Germansweek Parish Hall, which raised £400.

The events raised enough for another well installation in a Korogwe village.

In addition, Okehampton Rotary Club presented DAK with a cheque for £1,500 to go towards a spring box installation in the mountain village of Tewe, where access to springs is very steep and difficult.

Each year, two trustees from DAK visit the projects to inspect work carried out and to assess further needs and to assure all donations and profits from events go in their entirety to projects.

The charity is working towards helping another village that is using water from open holes at the bottom of a long, rocky hill and is hoping to raise sufficient funds to bring piped water from a spring to the villagers living on another long hill facing the source, where the women at present have long walks to fetch each bucketful.

Okehampton Rotary Club has arranged an evening concert with the Plymouth Police Choir to take place on Friday, April 23 at 7.30pm at Fairplace Church.

Tickets cost £5 and can be purchased from the Telecare shop in Okehampton.
