TAVISTOCK Cricket Club chairman Andy Jarman won the toss and elected to bat on a disappointingly dull August Sunday afternoon.
Robert Jarman and Mark Horwell gave the chairman's team an excellent start, reaching nearly 100 in 14 overs.
The good work was carried on by Mikey Cousens who scored 25, while Mark Horwell batted well to reach 71.
Mike Morgan and Harry Gearing put the brakes on the run scoring , restricting the Chairman's XI to 187 in their 35 overs.
Tavistock's Steve Dembitzer got the team off to a flying start, scoring 22 of the first 24 runs before being bowled by Brett Thomas. Dominic Scaglioni and Tim Pope, two 15 year old players, both batted well before the introduction of father and son combination, Phil and Jamie Stephens — whose bowling caused a mid-order collapse from which the Tavistock team never recovered.
Harry Gearing's quick 30 went some way towards rescuing the situation, before they were bowled out for 159, giving the chairman's team victory by 28 runs.
Despite the miserable weather it was an entertaining and enjoyable game played in good spirit by the two sides.
