HORRABRIDGE Youth Club opened its doors for the first time in three years last week.
The club, which was closed in 2014 after losing its youth worker, is now open to all from Year 7 up to the age of 19.
Angie Prout is the newly appointed club leader and brings a wealth of knowledge to the role — as well as her experience and passion for drumming.
Last Thursday (October 26) was the official consultation opening day for the club and was well supported by young people and their families.
Angie, who will set the club up every Thursday, said she is determined to make the club a success by listening to the young people of the village.
‘I want young people to give us feedback on what they want to do because it is up to them as this is for them.
‘The consultation was a huge success and seemed positive as young people have had very little to do in Horrabridge — we even had to give a gentle reminder that we were closing, which is always a good sign. The young people want somewhere they can hang out with their friends and somewhere safe to go.’
Angie added that from the consultation day, the club has had a lot of interest from photographers, gardeners and art college students who want to teach their respective skills to the young people.
Caroline Down, community Youth Worker in West Devon said: ‘As part of my role it has been my pleasure to help recruit a new worker so the youth club can re-open after a period of closure.
‘I’m thrilled that the young people will be able to access youth provision again in the village as a thriving youth club can be a real asset for the whole community, not just the young people that attend it.
‘I will be working with Angie for the next few months while the club gets up and running and we are looking forward to meeting as many young people from the area as possible, getting to know them and most of all having some fun!’
The club is open from 7pm to 9pm and will cost 50p a week, or you can ask Angie about becoming a member.
