Five Royal Marines are planning to 'March for Honour' through Devon to raise money for the Poppy Appeal.

The marines' route will take them from Plymouth to Yeovil, passing through West Devon today (Thursday), where the public are encouraged to turn out and support the team.

Event creator Lance Corporal Ram Patten said his own experience following a recent deployment to Afghanistan prompted him to attempt to raise £1-million for the Royal British Legion.

He said: 'My story is incomparable to the difficulties that many servicemen and women have endured.

'My experience may be just a drop in the ocean, but every drop can make a significant ripple.

'My aim is to turn that ripple into a wave of public awareness and charitable donations, which help look after those affected by war.'

The team, comprising both serving and ex-serving personnel, will set off from Plymouth Hoe at 10am today and will pass through Yelverton at 1.30pm, before reaching Princetown at 3pm.

The marines will then pass through Moretonhampstead at 7pm, before reaching Exeter later in the evening.

The next two days will see them make their way to Yeovil.
