Honiton 39
Tavistock 5
TAVISTOCK and its young side unfortunately let their poor away form continue at Honiton on Saturday.
Tavistock drew first blood with a try in the first five minutes after good positional kicking and an excellent drive to the corner.
The remainder of the first half was a poor display from the Moorlanders. Honiton dominated the lineout and had the upper hand in the scrum, which effectively cut Tavistock's attacking options.
Honiton scored two tries in the first half both resulting from good driving mauls and ball retentions. They were confident to attack up the slope from anywhere on their pitch.
At half-time, Tavistock gave away the advantage of the slope and the wind. Honiton played good percentage rugby, kicking for corners and attacking the line. Tavistock's defense cracked to allow Honiton another four tries.
Honiton's major playmakers No 8 Oliver Sudan and Open side Eric Shaun played a large part in their game. Tavistock for prolonged periods attacked Honiton up the slope but the home side had the edge in the pack.
Tavistock will have to improve their game if they are to beat arch rivals, second-placed Old Technicians this week at Sandy Park. Kick-off 2.30pm.
