CHAGFORD have a new piece of silverware for the trophy-case following their convincing 93-run victory over Belstone on Wednesday.
This was the inaugural 40-over match for a new cup donated by Mr Sonny Martin, long time supporter of both clubs, which will be contested annually between the two teams.
Batting first, Chagford began well with a solid half century opening stand between Adrian Tatford (25) and Del Owen (35) before both were removed by the hard working Chris Walsh (3 for 38).
Another stand of 66 for the fourth wicket between Andy Astley (32) and Dave Harvey, who hit ten fours in the top score of 63, ensured a good total for Chagford, although 3 wickets in one over for Sid Edwards pegged the home side back in the closing stages.
Needing five an over, Belstone were immediately in trouble losing four wickets with only 7 runs on the board, all clean bowled by the lively Astley (3 for 10) and Owen (1 for 8).
Simon Tremain held one end together, carrying his bat for 34, but apart from a few cultured strokes by Edwards (18) and lusty blows from Terry Jeal (17), the visitors could not get back into the match, finishing on 110 all out in the 33rd over.
