THE busy season continues at Tavistock Golf Club with members taking advantage of the warm sunny weather.
The ladies' guest day was played in these ideal conditions with past lady captain Sue Gowing and her guest Karen Preston winning the honours with 40pts. Jayne Wright and guest Alison Dawn scored 38 pts on countback from Fran Horton and guest Hilary Newcombe.
In the ladies' foursomes cup the winners were Bridget Luckham and Teresa Hughes with a nett 73 and the runners up were Jenny Kay and Hilary Picton with nett 79. Teresa was also on top form again when she won the Goddard Smith Trophy played in conjunction with the monthly medal.
She topped the second division with a nett 71 on countback from Jenny Kay. In division one Dawn Phillott had a nett 72, second Sally Hills nett 76 and third, with nett 77, was Fran Horton. The weather was not so kind for the monthly stableford played in conjunction with the Alice Rose Trophy and resulted in reductions only. The winner of the Alice Rose Trophy was Jayne Wright with 34pts.
In the men's monthly stableford Kenny McKenzie topped division one with 42pts. Second was Dave Burge 40, third Nick Mier with 39 on countback from Graham Ruth.
In division two Graham Kelly scored 37pts, second John Thewlis with 35 on countback from Mark Sloman. Hugh Walkington in divison three had 41pts with Richard Green second with 38. Third was Keith Stenhouse with 37.
In the monthly medal and captain's prize medal scoring was close but Rick Harrison had a nett 67 to win the Captain's prize medal. Second was David Johns with nett 68 and, with all on countback, were Graham Caines, Mike Apps, Peter Page, Ken Kendall and Will Stenhouse with nett 70.
The Juniors had a good home win three and a half to one and a half against Yelverton in the final match of the West Devon Junior Golf League. Excellent golf was played by both sides including Tavistock's Rob Beveridge who had an eagle on the 11th hole. The result put Tavistock in third place in the league.
