A WEST Devon volunteer was honoured with a Lord-Lieutenant's Commendation for Meritorious Service recently at a ceremony held in Plymouth.
Flight Lieutenant Philip John Newcombe (above) of the 2312 Tavistock Squadron of the Plymouth and Cornwall Wing Air Training Corps has dedicated more than 12 years of service and eight of those in command of his squadron.
As well as commanding a squadron that is consistently a top performer in the wing, Philip, 52, is a member of the Dartmouth Panel of the Duke of Edinburgh Award, and has taken on the role of Wing BTEC officer.
Philip ensures that it is the whole wing and not just his squadron that benefits from his vast knowledge and experience.
The award, given by Devon's vice Lord-Lieutenant Sir John Cave on behalf of Lord-Lieutenant Mr Eric Dancer, reflects true commitment and honour to the county's reserve and cadet forces.
