Truro B 1 Tavistock Seconds 1 DESPERATE to build on last week's positive win against top of the table St Austell, Tavistock constructed an interesting player formation in an attempt to maintain their attacking style. But after 15 minutes, it was obvious the tactic was not proving successful and signalled a reversion to the side's normal structure, which soon settled the team. But unfortunately, within two or three minutes, Tavistock let a goal in against the run of play. A determined Tavistock pushed forward and created several chances of their own, with good moves by Nick Andrews and James Alford, who was working hard to impress the watching crowd. The visitors started to dominate the final quarter of the first half and further pressure ensued through a handful of short corners. A rowing half time speech by the management team saw a re-focussed Tavistock side take to the pitch. After some initial sparring at the beginning of the second half, the visitors began to dominate and encamped themselves in the home side's half for significant periods, producing several short corners. Eventually, Phil Edwards picked up a well struck shot to score inside the left hand post, catching the goalkeeper well out of position. This lifted morale in the Tavistock team. The defensive line up of Gareth George, Roger Costello, Bob Cowan and Brian Rodda took the play to the opposing attackers, with Rodda on several occasions startling the opposition with some dynamic work, releasing the ball to capitalise on the space in midfield. Tavistock's relentless pressure continued, with the team firmly entrenched in the home side's half, although unfortunately they failed to capitalise on many opportunities. Their attack continued until a break away move by the Truro attack forced a short corner in the closing minutes, which sparked a typically spectacular game saving deflection by keeper Martin Osborne, just past the nearside post. Man of the match: James Alford. This week Tavistock Seconds play Camborne School of Mines at home, 4.30pm, Kelly Astro.
