HATHERLEIGH?S Olly Wickett (left) was named young player of the year at the Devon Cricket League presentation evening in Exeter recently.
Although Hatherleigh were relegated from the B Division, Wickett?s performances with bat and ball were good enough to earn him a call-up for the Devon League U25 representative side at the end of the season.
Previous winners of the trophy include Chris Read and Mark Lathwell, who have both gone on to play Test cricket for England.
Olly was presented with the trophy by former England wicketkeeper Bob Taylor.
Although the first team were relegated, the second team under David Penberthy won their division following a thrilling last-day win over Abbotskerswell, who were leaders on the morning of the match.
