DEPUTY mayor Ann Johnson said it was ?a huge honour and privilege? to be elected to serve the town where she was born. ?It will be a challenge, but one that I will face with enthusiasm ? trying to serve the community of Tavistock and the council to the best of my ability.? She was proposed by the mayor and seconded by Cllr Iain Andrews who praised her contribution to council debates. ?She has used reasoned arguments, and, where necessary, diplomacy, when persuading her colleagues to come to the right decision for the benefit of the town,? he said. Cllr Alison Clishe-Green paid tribute to retiring mayor Jenny Metcalf, saying she had, during her year in office, ?worked tirelessly on behalf of the council and the people of Tavistock?.
