Men's Devon Plate ISCA C 3 Tavistock A 5 TAVISTOCK faced ISCA C in a Sunday cup game in what proved to be a morale boosting win. Tavistock started better than ISCA and took the lead through a reverse shot by Jeffries, the first of his four goals in the match. ISCA then took control as they heaped pressure on Tavi who seemed camped in their own half for the remainder of the first period. At half time Tavistock were three goals to one down despite the, at times, desperate defending of Wood, George and Rodda. A good half time talk from Honey saw Tavistock taking the game to their Exeter based opponents. Heeding this advice Tavistock scored four goals without reply in the second half to reach the semi- finals of the competition as ISCA's game and discipline all but fell apart. League Truro B 4 Tavistock A 1 HAVING beaten second placed Marjons last week, Tavistock knew if they played well they stood a good chance of beating league leaders Truro. It was Tavistock who started the brighter of the two teams as Edwards and Costello put some clever passing moves together. Against the run of play Truro took the lead from a well dispatched short corner, their centre forward unleashing a thunderous shot into the top corner, something that was to prove a feature as the afternoon wore on. Before long Truro had their chins in front by two clear goals, again from a short corner, their centre forward tucking the ball into the bottom corner. Tavistock scored to keep the away side in touch as Barratt slotted the ball away following great work by Andrews who did well to twirl round and put the cross in. While this gave hope to Tavistock the game was effectively over before half time as the home side scored another two goals after Tavistock failed to clear the ball effectively. The second half saw plenty of effort by both sides, though neither side were able to add to the score. Truro were unlucky not to add to their tally, due to their well rehearsed short corner routine. Goalkeeper Osborne was left unsure if he should be diving higher or lower to keep out their accurately struck shots! Tavistock themselves had their chances, with Daniells in particular going close. It is good to see Truro, a very hospitable side, celebrating their 80 year anniversary. It seems likely they will go on to achieve promotion and the Tavistock side wished them all the best for next season.
