Truro A 2

Tavistock 5

WITH three wins out of three under their belt Tavistock men's hockey team travelled into Cornwall missing six first team members and wondering if they would lose their top of the table position.

The surprise return from illness of Lethbridge was a welcome bonus and helped bolster the depleted defence. Tavistock drafted in five members of the second team and squad and they fitted in admirably.

Tavistock dominated early exchanges and were unfortunate to find themselves a goal down after 10 minutes.

This imbalance was corrected when Jeffreys drove a hard strike into the back of the net from a loose ball following a short corner.

Shortly before half time Truro broke away to score their second.

Tavistock attacked from the start and captain Aveyard levelled the score with a well converted penalty awarded for a foot stopping a certain goal.

Tavistock maintained the aggressive pressure and attacked at every opportunity. Man of the match Honey intercepted a ball on the right and drove up the wing where the ever-lively Jeffreys neatly slotted his cross home.

Edwards scored Tavistock's fourth from a short corner to take the score beyond Truro, who still threatened to score but for good saves by keeper Neil Bradley.

The final goal was scored from a short corner after time had completed and with the entire Tavistock side in the opposing D the ball was scrambled over by Lovett.

This week a tough encounter with the University A, home, 2.30pm.
