TRANSITION Tavistock and the Cordiale project have teamed up to organise two 'open homes' days, giving people the chance to visit home-owners to see how they are conserving energy or generating their own from a renewable resource.

Kate Royston, from Transition Tavistock, said: 'Talking to an impartial owner about their experiences, costs involved and benefits gained is a is a great way to consider how energy conservation and generation measures might work in your own home.

'We have been encouraged by the success of our growing community of home-owners sharing experiences. Energy Savers at Home is our next step to support wider adoption locally.'

The first Open Homes day will take place on Sunday February 12 and will focus on homes within Tavistock and surrounding villages. It starts at 10am at the New Generation Energy showroom at Crelake Industrial Estate in Tavistock.

Open home visits will take place between 10.30am and 3.30pm, with an optional tour available to book in advance. New Generation Energy's showroom will be open throughout the day for advice.

A good selection of home owners have offered to participate in the day.

A second event, covering the wider Tamar Valley area, will be held on Saturday March 10 at the Tamar Valley Centre, Drakewalls.

Simon Bates from the Cordiale project, said: 'Open home events are attended by thousands of people every year in areas like Bristol, Crediton and Stroud.

'Experience has shown that they lead to action — as many as 83% of visitors are responding, taking practical steps to improve energy efficiency in their own homes.'
