CALLINGTON Cats Protection branch is ?bursting at the seams? with cats and kittens requiring a home. Abi Holme, welfare and re-home officer, said the branch was having ?great difficulty? homing them as many prospective cat owners were away on summer holiday. ?The branch faces a difficult time each summer, but this year is worse than normal. As well as looking after the numerous adult cats already in our care, we have also taken in eleven unwanted and abandoned kittens and we?re expecting many more before the summer is over,? she said. One of the cats is a young mother and her six black kittens, which were found in a caravan park after one kitten was spotted lying helpless in a puddle. ?The quick thinking of the man concerned saved not only the life of this first kitten but also the lives of the litter mates and his mum,? Ms Holme said. The branch is urging owners to have their cats neutered to avoid the influx of unwanted kittens. Neutering also makes cats less likely to fight. People on benefits can receive vouchers towards the cost of neutering and can contact Lynda Dawe on 01579 382794 for more information. For information on adopting contact 01579 382252.
