I AM writing in regard to your article, 'Upset by 'eyesore' fence' (January 15).

As the person whose boundary is marked by the chainlink fence I can agree that it isn't asthetically pleasing. However, having read the article three times now I see that no effort had been made to source the opinions of anyone other than Mr Yelland and West Devon Homes, nor has any attempt been made to find out why the fence was erected in the first place — there was a problem with empty beer bottles and dog muck and such being left.

If you enquire with West Devon Homes I am sure that they will have a record of the letter they received from me regarding permission for me to erect a wooden fence, due to a used hypodermic needle that was found in our garden.

West Devon Homes agreed with my plight and decided to fit the fence themselves, to their stated specifications. Since the fence was erected we have found no litter in the garden and therefore, albeit a little ugly, the fence is serving its purpose.
