Torbay 3rd XI 5

Tavistock 2nd XI 2

TAVISTOCK Hockey Club second team playing their first league match after the Christmas break, took the home side by surprise and went into the lead.

The goal came from a free hit taken by Newman jnr and scored by Newman snr. Torbay soon came back and from a controversial decision by the umpire levelled the game.

Tavistock pressed hard for their next goal. The forwards, playing some good passing hockey, had the goalkeeper beaten but the ball hit the post. Mackintosh scored on the rebound.

Tavistock held onto to the lead for much of the first half but Torbay equalised from a poor short corner.

In the second half the weather seemed to get colder, but temperatures rose on both sides. Tavistock had a player sent off for a short while, and after this the away side never managed to get back into the game.

Torbay scored a further three goals, to put the game out of reach of the Tavistock side who should have come home with a point instead of losing all three.

Team: Newman snr capt., Newman Jnr, Osbourne (GK), Moyse, Holden, Greg, Mike, Greenaway, Mackintosh, Cooley, Knox
