AT OKEHAMPTON Golf Club last week the lady captain hosted the ladies invitation, in an extremely successful day. 40 ladies played in the sunshine and Kay King and her daughter Amanda from Exminster won first prize with 40 points; second were Mary Keir and guest Liz Slee from Launceston on 37 and third were Kath Mansell and guest Ann Fensom from Bude with 34. The Dartmoor League team played at Downes Crediton and managed a better result than they expected as captain Paul Rattenbury with Keith Harkness and Barry Hodges with Nick Heath both managed to half their matches. The other teams all had very tight matches so though Crediton had a 4-1 win the match was a lot closer than the score suggests. The juniors played their league match against Sidmouth and their captain Jonny Rattenbury gave the team a good start by winning his match two up. Though Lawrence Waldron and Dan Curtis lost, Adam Clarke won 2-1 and Jordan Lee had an emphatic 8-7 victory. Will Searle had a walkover. This 4-2 victory gives the juniors a good start to their 2007 campaign. Two of Okehampton Golf Club members have joined the ?hole-in-one club?, at the men?s open Dameon Fletcher scored a fantastic albatross as he aced the 317 yard par 4 16th hole. Then Pam Jarman had her hole-in-one at Honiton Golf Club when the ladies were playing their last away match as they strive to reach the finals of the President?s trophy for the second year in a row. The team did well though Marcia Holwill, Marcia Jones and Cherry James lost, Dawn Phillott won her match 5-3, Penny Deakin won two up, Mo Huggins won 3-2 and Pam won hers 6-5.
