THE hockey season will soon be here again and Okehampton men's hockey club begin their pre-season training sessions on Tuesday August 8.
The session includes coaching and training and will be from 8.15pm to 9.15pm on the college all-weather pitch.
These practices are for everyone and if you are interested please come along.
The club hope to restart their junior practices early in September.
The coming season will be challenging for both teams in the club. The first team will again be in South West division 1 whereas the second team will be in the South West division 3.
Ironically, both teams begin their league programme on September 30 with games against Tavistock.
During the summer, the club has remained active, running a successful tournament in Okehampton Sports Week which was won by ECV Hornets, and reaching the knockout stages of the Exmouth Mixed Summer League.
The boys' under 15 team represented West Devon in the Millennium Youth games in June giving a good account of themselves, and two of these players have already attended training sessions with the Devon squads. With these younger players coming through signs are encouraging for the club and particularly the second team.
If anyone is interested in playing, coaching or umpiring for the club contact either Club captain Chris Luxton on 01837 55352 or club secretary Richard Jones on 01837 810167.
The club are grateful to Waitrose (Okehampton) for donating money towards goalkeeping kit.
