A WEST Devon man is appealing for witnesses and garage owners in the area to come forward after a family member was involved in a hit and run.

Bere Ferrers resident Adam Croton had his brother-in-law from Australia staying with him recently. His brother-in-law was on his way to Cornwall for a few days, and was driving down the long Bere Alston road with his 11-year-old child in the car on Sunday October 23, when a car coming the other way crashed into him at speed and drove off.

Mr Croton said: 'He was coming round the bend just before the long stretch of road when a silver Vauxhall Vectra crashed into him. It was driving at around 90 to 100 mph on the wrong side of the road, heading towards Bere Alston. My brother-in-law wasn't hurt but the driver's side of his car was ruined.

'A man driving behind my brother in law described the car as a twin exhaust, recent model and said it was being driven erratically.'

Mr Croton has informed the police but they are unable to make any further enquiries because the number plate of the driver's car was unknown.

He said that the silver Vectra must have had some substantial damage and is appealing to garage owners in the area to contact him if a car matching the description is brought into them.
