At the next meeting of Okehampton Local History Society members will welcome the return of Alan Endacott who will be speaking on the history of stained glass making. This was the talk he was scheduled to give at a meeting last year, when in fact he spoke on castles in Devon and Cornwall. Alan Endacott is himself a stained glass artist. He was Dartmoor born, was the founder curator of the Museum of Dartmoor Life in Okehampton and has worked for English Heritage. The meeting will be on Wednesday, October 10 at 7.30pm in the Ockment Hall at the rear of the Ockment Community Centre in North Street, Okehampton. Last month also saw the return of another popular speaker. Dr Tom Greeves, who had previously given a fascinating talk on The Three Hares, spoken on the last days of tinworking on Dartmoor and showed some excellent slides. Meetings of the society are held on the second Wednesday of the month at 7.30pm in the Ockment Hall. New members are welcome and anyone interested in joining should contact secretary Malcolm Francis-Lang on 01837 840158. Visitors are welcome at meetings at a charge of £2 per person.
