THE first ever one-volume chronological history of Tavistock is the latest work by local historian Gerry Woodcock.

Gerry, who was born in Leicestershire, came to Tavistock in 1966 as Head of History at Tavistock School and later became Head of Sixth Form at the school, retiring from the post in 1995. He has written and lectured on aspects of the history of Tavistock and is president of the Tavistock Local History Society.

His new book, Tavistock, A History, is a single volume general history of the town and is a fully illustrated account bringing the modern resident and visitor face-to-face with the factors that have influenced the development of Tavistock.

Gerry will be signing copies of his latest work at Bookstop in Tavistock on Friday, November 28 from 11am to 1pm.

Tavistock, A History, priced £16.99, is published by Phillimore Publishers.
