THE West Devon Association of the National Trust has arranged an illustrated talk by local freelance writer and historian Simon Dell entitled ‘The Dartmoor Conchies (Conscientious Objectors)’ for Thursday, February 22 at Bridestowe Village Hall.

Since retiring as a policeman in 2007 after 30 years’ service, Simon, currently the director and co-ordinator of Moorland Guides, has led a very busy and varied life which includes guiding walks, mountaineering both in the UK and abroad, as well as playing in the local town band and giving talks and presentations all around the Westcountry and nationally.

This presentation, which tells the story of the ‘Conchies’ during the First World War, takes place at 2pm.
