CHARGES are due to rise in the town council-owned Guildhall car park at the end of this month.
This comes in the wake of criticism over the rise in West Devon Borough Council?s car parks in Tavistock.
Tavistock Town Council agreed in April to increase the cost of parking for half-an-hour from 20p to 30p and an hour from 40p to 60p ? a rise of 50%.
These charges will come into force on June 28.
The council also agreed changes in disabled parking, but these will not come into effect until the full administrative procedure has been completed.
Those with blue badges will then have to pay 30p but will be able to park for two hours.
Town clerk Roger Howard explained the council decided to bring the car park in line with the borough car parks concerning disabled parking as there was concern that otherwise the car park would be overwhelmed with disabled parking.
However, although in the borough car parks disabled drivers have to pay for an hour to get two, in the Guildhall car park they will only have to pay for half-an-hour.
?It will now remain what it was intended to be ? a short term shoppers? car park,? Mr Howard said.
