I WOULD like to invite the members of the County Highways team who think that the provision of a single roundabout off the Callington Road would be sufficient to access the site of the proposed development of 750 houses, to come and have a long, hard look at the current traffic situation there. At school collecting time, morning and evening, the traffic is gridlocked. If there is a problem at Drake roundabout, the traffic is at a standstill a long way up the road, well past the proposed site entrance. Also, on Sunday mornings the road is reduced to single file by the parking outside the Catholic church . When one thinks of all the extra cars using the road, possibly more than a thousand from the 750 houses, and the extra journeys generated by the station, to and from the primary school and the retail outlet etc etc it really doesn't bear thinking about. The parties involved really need to come up with a viable solution to all this before any building takes place, as there are also all the site lorries, builders' vehicles, delivery lorries and vans to be taken into consideration. I really dread the advent of the whole building project and re-instatement of the railway as it will cause chaos for all of us who live on this side of Tavistock.
