AS most readers of the Times will recall, the bus service to Plymouth from Tavistock via Whitchurch was suspended a couple of years or so ago, because of the difficulty of its passage along the Whitchurch Road from Tavistock. This was due to the large number of cars parked along the route, many of which were not tucked in close to the roadside kerbs. Moreover, a proportion of these were large, high HP four-wheel drive vehicles, whose owners showed scant regard for the other users of this busy road. Whereas such cars are no doubt a useful asset for farmers and as such can be justified, one can be certain that this use does not apply in 99% of the cases. It is high time that the Government demands a higher differential rate of road tax for these juggernauts. My first plea is for all car drivers to park neatly and as close as possible to the kerb, especially by the Whitchurch Post Office where frequently the bus driver is presented with the greatest difficulty in getting round the corner into and from the Anderton Lane.
