Oke Columbines ladies 7
Plym Valley seconds 5
Okehampton travelled to Plymouth for this league fixture with several regular players absent. Katie Graves made her first ever appearance as goalie and Netty Collett made a welcome return after several years.
Okehampton moved smoothly into action and with confident neat passing put themselves 1-0 up with a well positioned push from Jo Moppett in the opening minutes.
The play continued to be fairly even but Oke's crosses in front of Plym's goal did not quite make it into the net. Plym, focusing their play on their right side got themselves into the circle several times and each time managed to find the back of the goal to go up 4-1 at half time. Oke's skilful centre half Sarah Jones had to leave the pitch due to injury during this first half leaving the home side with 10 players.
Sandy Douglas at left back was inspired in the second half and she followed up her strong and successful tackles with deep forays into the Plym half or with powerful passes that threw Plym onto the back foot. These balls were leapt upon by Okehampton's attackers, and the team's flexible play meant various players either took the ball forward or backed up the defence.
Jo Moppett made her solo run count and Oke gained heart as they gained their second goal. This was swiftly followed up by another from Jo Moppett and then captain Alex Collins coolly got Okehampton's fourth to equalise.
Plym started to see the game slip from their hands but Oke, still with ten players, showed greater fitness and control. Jo Moppett scored again to take Okehampton into the lead. Amanda Sims, showing intelligent and controlled play, was struck in the knee but bravely continued.
Okehampton went on the attack again and in their desperation Plym's back stopped a shot at goal on the line with a foot and a penalty flick was awarded. Jo Moppett stepped up to make it 6-4 to Okehampton.
Plym Valley came back to 6-5 but the Columbines responded when the ball was picked up by Jo Moppett to score for 7-5.
Next week Okehampton has a home game against Truro on the new pitch at 2.30pm.

Callington Ladies 0
OKEHAMPTON Ladies second team travelled to HMS Raleigh at Torpoint for this Plymouth and District League.
The first half was an even game with both teams having scoring chances. Strong tackling from Brieze Read and Katy Graves kept the Callington attack at bay. The Oke girls pressurised the Callington circle with inside forward Sophie Cunnington feeding her attackers with quality ball but they were unable to find the net.
Oke were the fitter side in the second half moving the ball around the pitch forcing Callington to defend in numbers. Both Eve Colton and Annette Goswell were unlucky not to score.
Despite having the majority of the possession Oke could not convert it into goals. They were left very frustrated with a 0-0 draw when the final whistle blew.
Brieze Reed, Sophie Cunnington and Rachel Laidlaw were Oke players of the match.
