AFTER such a favourable summer, the produce quality at this year's Milton Abbot Village Show was very high with particularly strong competition in the flower classes and the vegetable section in the runner bean and apple categories.

The show saw former competitors returning from previous years but also attracted new entrants.

With the theme of music for 2014, visitors to the show were met with live harp music and pupils from Milton Abbot Primary School gave a choral rendition.

This year's trophy winners were: Highest points in floral art, Doreen Atkinson; best exhibit floral art, Susan Champion; trophy for highest points in flower classes, Julia Martin; cup for best rose in show, Julia Martin; best exhibit in flower classes, Sheila Martin; best vegetable in show, John Spurr; highest points in the vegetable classes, Arthur Vigars; joint winners in the the fruit section, Dianne Askquith – Ellis and Lesley Weldon; highest points in the cookery classes, Hilary Tucker; best exhibit in the cookery classes, Hilary Tucker; trophy for set recipe, Rachael Askquith- Ellis; trophy for best exhibit and highest points in handicraft section, Pam Nicholson; trophy for best exhibit in photography, Emma Matters; highest points in photography, Lorna Stroep-Nilsson; best exhibit in children's classes, Freya O'Donnell, highest points in children's classes, Leighanna Askquith-Smith; trophy for highest points in cookery and handicraft, Kirsty Cox; trophy for highest points in flower classes, Kirsty Balsdon; best exhibit in art classes, Dorothy Hill; highest points in art classes, Denise Head; highest points in show, Julia Martin and gentleman with highest points in show, Les Chester.

This year saw Sonja Watson, who has organised the village show so brilliantly for ten years, step down from her duties.

Amanda Randall, who was awarding the prizes at this year's show, presented Sonja with a bouquet of flowers as a sign of appreciation for all her hard work over the years.
