FOR THE third year running the British Transplant Games beckons for Wendy Sincock from Spreyton who is hoping to match her previous medal tally.
Wendy, who received a kidney transplant nearly three years ago, brought home two gold medals, one silver and one bronze last year after taking part in the games in Newcastle.
The competitor is entered in two swimming events, the 800 metres, 400 metres and the shotput which will be good practice ahead of the World Transplant Games in Japan which Wendy has been selected for.
Three years ago Wendy could hardly walk up the stairs and today she is fighting fit thanks to a kidney transplant.
With it being National Transplant Week this week, Wendy is raising awareness of organ donation and encouraging people to carry donor cards.
'There are 5,000 people in England waiting for kidney transplants, not to mention all those waiting for heart and lung transplants,' said the woman who describes herself as a 'walking miracle.'
'I did not have the energy to even drive my car before the transplant and now it is like being re-born.'
Wendy said to be able to take part in the transplant games was a fantastic experience but also a humbling one.
'When you see see five-year-olds who have had heart and lung transplants running their little legs off it brings tears to your eyes,' she said.
'People up to 80 years old take part and it is just an amazing sight — you get a really good feeling from it.'
Wendy is a member of the Exeter and District Transplant Team who are taking part in the British Transplant Games in Leeds.
