HE suffered injury and huge mental pressure but East Cornwall endurance runner Bob Brown has achieved a record-breaking run across Europe in his toughest challenge to date. The 36-year-old crossed the finish line in Russia on Sunday afternoon, after running 3,000 miles in 54 days, six hours and 40 minutes, beating the previous record by more than a week. Bob, who lives at Stoke Climsland, has run the equivalent of two marathons a day since setting off from Lisbon on August 2, has worn through nine pairs of trainers and lost two stone in weight. No stranger to endurance running, Bob, who has already run the length of Australia and North America, has been consuming a huge number of pasties, pies and sandwiches made by his sponsor Ginsters to help keep up his energy levels. Supported by a small back-up team of friends and family, including his wife Amy, who cycled all but 200 miles of the route, Bob?s first move after he crossed the Russian border was to crack open a bottle of champagne. ?There we were in a really remote spot in a pine forest and it was a lovely moment,? he said. ?My main feeling was one of immense relief ? 12 days into the run I nearly gave up because I could not find any reason to go on. ?This is the first time I have run solo and it was a huge mental battle for me. I just took it one day at a time and the crew kept me going. I thought of the charity CHICKS who I was running for and my family and friends and that helped.? Bob, who suffered an ankle injury during the run, said achieving the Europe run was probably his ?proudest moment?.
