HEROES from the Tavistock area are being celebrated in a week of special events next month run by the town?s library. The programme of visits and talks has been arranged following a successful bid to the ?Awards for All? Lottery fund by the Friends of Tavistock Library. The events include students visiting Buckland Abbey to learn about Sir Francis Drake; a visit to Morwellham Quay to tour mine workings and meet engineer John Taylor; students learning about ?Drake? and ?Lady Drake? and hearing about life in Elizabethan times; adults can attend a creative writing workshop ? concentrating on using local history to create heroes and heroines; experience the art ?Dip and Dabble?; children can create t-shirts of their favourite heroes; and on National Poem Day, people can contribute lines to a community poem about local heroes.
