THE? annual Horrabridge Summer Fair will be held in the centrally located Weir Park on Saturday, (June 28) from noon to 4pm, offering a wide variety of amusements for adults and children. As well as the miniature railway running to and fro beside the river and the many stalls and sideshows organised by local organisations, many of them raising funds for good causes in and around the village, there will be an opportunity to buy books, plants and cakes. The beer tent will be next door to the ever-popular barbecue run by the Horrabridge Cavaliers. There is still time to enter for the barrel race, the headline attraction at the fair. The race is being run by the Cavaliers and the Leaping Salmon, who have supplied the barrels and donated prizes. It is split this year into categories for men and women, with the course and barrel weights varying between the categories. Anybody taking part should be prepared to get wet, as that's all part of the challenge. Teams of two have to carry the barrels between two points in the river. Prizes will go to the first three finishers in each category, and include beer, wine and meal vouchers. Anyone who is interested in entering a team of two should email [email protected]">[email protected] l People looking to improve the cost of heating and powering their homes can visit an energy saving group, who will be on hand at Horrabridge Summer Fair this weekend. Horrabridge Energy Savers is an initiative from Transition Tavistock and the Energy Saving Trust for Horrabridge residents which will be running until the end of 2014. People are encouraged to drop by the stand and find out more about offers available to help reduce costs and, if necessary, improve the energy efficiency of homes.
