POLICE officers in Okehampton fear a man who indecently assaulted a young woman in Simmons Park on Sunday evening may strike again.
The attack happened around 6pm when the woman was pushed to the ground by the man.
She fought him off and it is possible the man may have suffered facial bruising as a result.
Sgt Dave Anning said officers were treating the case very seriously.
?Fortunately this sort of offence is very rare in Okehampton, but it is urgent that this man is arrested before he attacks another woman,? he said.
Investigators want to hear from anyone who knows of a man with any bruising, especially to his face. DC Paul Leahy, of Okehampton CID, said: ?This is one of those cases where anonymous information can be as useful as a witness ? if you know a man who has recent bruising, call us and let us check out how it happened.?
The man involved is described as white, around 5ft 8ins tall and of slim build. He had short hair which was spiky on top and was wearing fingerless gloves ? the sort cyclists wear. Both he and his clothes smelt strongly of after-shave.
Sgt Anning said West Devon was generally a safe part of the country to live in, but people should not be blasé.
He said: ?People must not forget that we do still get crime, and incidents like this one happen all over the country.
?At this time of year it gets dark very early and it is always important to let someone know where you are and carry a mobile phone with you.?
