POLICE are urging members of the public to take a stance against anti-social behaviour occurring in the West Devon area. At a Devon and Cornwall Police Authority liaison meeting last Wednesday at Tavistock College, many local residents were concerned and appalled by the amount of motorists still driving around their homes without any care for others. One resident said: ?People are doing 70mph along Plymouth Road on a regular basis. I think it is remarkable that we have a police station down the road ? and we have so many open cars racing.? He told members of the authority that the car racers are so obvious, and asked why there were still no speed cameras along the road. The resident said: ?When you?re trying to put your kids to bed, and this is still going on, after a while you run out of steam. ?If I can take the licence numbers of the cars can something be done?? Chief Inspector for West Devon, Chris Stevens, said appeals had been made to the public, and action was being taken. Sector Inspector for West Devon, Bob Hughes, said: ?We can seize vehicles that have been listed in an anti-social way. ?If two or more residents get together and meet on a Friday or Saturday night and get all the descriptions down, and are prepared to stand in court and co-operate and say they used the car in an anti-social manner, then this can help tackle the problem. ?People will need to witness the incidents in force as in court. one person?s word will be against another.? If anyone suffers incidents of anti-social behaviour in their area they should contact Tavistock Police Station on 08452 777444.
