PEOPLE in Okehampton and Tavistock are being helped to stop smoking and get healthy through confidential, one-to-one clinics run by NHS Devon.

Healthy Lifestyle clinics are held at Parklands Leisure Centre in Okehampton every Friday between 8am and 10am and at Tavistock hospital every Thursday between 5pm and 7pm. A stop smoking support clinic is held at Kingdon house in Tavistock every Friday between 10am and 12pm.

All the clinics are run by a team of health trainers, and are open to everyone over 16 on an appointment basis.

Greg Price, health improvement specialist for NHS Devon, said: 'People who smoke have individual habits and so each client gets a tailored approach to maximise the likelihood of success.

'We get good feedback from people attending these clinics and research shows people are four times more likely to quit with NHS support.

'The support is free and we can organise a prescription for nicotine replacement therapies.

'We are able to help people quit smoking and can help when other methods have proved unsuccessful. So for those who have tried to give up several times and perhaps feel that nothing will work, we may have the solution.
