DO you have any unwanted small electrical appliances lying around your house or tucked away in your shed?

If the answer is yes, then children from Okehampton Primary School would like you to keep hold of them until Recycling Week.

The school would like people to take their small electrical appliances along to the Okehampton Recycling Centre in exchange for a reward token, which has a unique code that needs to be allocated to the school via the internet. Alternatively, people can bring the token into school.

The school with the most donated tokens will win garden vouchers.

Electrical items can range from broken or unwanted kettles, toasters, hairdryers, shavers, irons, DIY equipment, TVs, hi-fis, strimmers, lawnmowers, electric toothbrushes, radios, mobile phones or battery operated items.

If the school is a successful prizewinner they will use the garden vouchers to supplement their commitment to producing as much of their own vegetables as possible.

They currently have four raised allotment beds with a further four being developed, with potatoes and tomatoes growing outside many of the classrooms.

The school produces two tonnes of compost every six months, using their state-of-the-art composting equipment which means that none of their fruit or vegetable waste goes to landfill.

Eco school co-ordinator at Okehampton Primary Fran Rickwood said 'Recycle Week is a great way for the whole school community to work together to further our efforts towards becoming a Green Flag Eco School.

'If we all work together during Recycle Week, we have every chance of winning a prize that will have a direct, positive impact on our children and the environment.'

Recycle Week will run from Monday, June 21 to Sunday, June 27.
