GOLDEN girl Helen Jenks was in for a right royal treat at a recent Duke of Edinburgh awards ceremony.
The enterprising 18 year-old from Whitchurch met Prince Philip when she went to St James? Palace to receive her hard-earned Duke of Edinburgh?s gold award.
Helen undertook various projects with guidance from the YWCA to achieve the award ? from a swimming challenge to hiking around Loch Lomond.
She has been a Young Leader with 4th Tavistock Guide Unit and bred hamsters to complete the special skills section.
Her finest moment on the award trail was a six-week sojourn racing tall ships in the Baltic last year.
Helen also met mountaineer Norman Croucher (above) who presented certificates to all Devon-based gold award recipients at Bicton College.
