TUG of war is returning to the Okehampton Show and teams have already been lined up to pull their weight when it comes to entertaining the crowds.

It is one of the many attractions lined up at this year's show at the Stoney Park showground, Holsworthy Road on Thursday, August 13.

Gilly Oliver, show secretary, told the Times: 'Tug of war was a popular feature when the show was held in the town many years ago and it is hoped that people who have been at work will enjoy a couple of hours at the showground in the early evening.

'The competition is due to start at 6pm with eight teams taking part in 640 kilogram and catchweight classes and two teams in the ladies' challenge.'

Entry is free after 5.30pm and refreshments will still be available in the evening.

Ticket prices for Okehampton Show are £10 for adults, £3 for children aged five to 14, and £20 family ticket (two adults, two children). Advance price tickets are also available (adults only) at £8.
