I WONDERED if you might enjoy a letter with a bit of light relief in these troubled days?

I am sure you, and most of your readers remember our Carmelite Convent in Watts Road, which had to close six years ago for lack of sisters. I was there for many years, and had part responsibility for seeing to the house?s deliveries. Now, even after many years I often dream we are still there, or have gone back somehow.

The most recent dream was hectic ? all our orders had been cancelled, but I realised we had no milk from Unigate, no groceries from Creber?s. So I was told to ring around, and, of course, was defeated, the phone was already cut off.

The climax came when some people called to attend our morning service of mass. I had to explain that sadly we now had no chaplain or even chapel. They were so upset, they left shouting they were going to join the terrorists, and we were to blame!

I awoke with relief, knowing I was now retired and had no work duties except the joyful ?duty? of praying daily for all our dear friends in Tavistock, and indeed for all the dear people living there. There are only three of us left now living, but we will keep up our happy ?duty? as long as we live.

May God bless all of us.
