WEST DEVON's Heather Fell won a silver medal with the Great Britain team at the 2009 Modern Pentathlon World Championships this weekend.

Heather, along with teammates Katy Livingston and Mhairi Spence, took silver which was a repeat of the same trio's performance at last year's world championships in Budapest. Germany won the gold.

Heather was also the top Britain in the individual finishing ninth as Qian Chen today became China's first woman modern pentathlon world champion. 

She was the highest placed finisher of the quartet that reached the final. She worked her way up through the field from 19th to ninth with the fifth fastest combined event.

Heather said: "It's nice to come away from a home championships with a medal of some sort. It would have been better to come away with more medals. It's something to show for all our hard work this year.

'The whole set up here has been brilliant, all the officials and the way it's been run. I think Britain should be proud of the way they've run this competition it's been great.'
