PARKLANDS Leisure Centre in Okehampton and Meadowlands in Tavistock are inviting locals to claim free health checks throughout February, all in aid of British Heart Foundation's National Heart Month.

The centres will be giving out free blood pressure tests and nutritional advice to help people find out more about their health and how they could improve it.

It is reported that coronary heart disease is the UK's single biggest killer, with 2.6 million people living with the disease.

Heart and circulatory diseases cause more than a quarter of all deaths in the UK, and it has been proven that keeping fit and having a healthy diet are important factors in order to stay heart healthy.

Kevin Yates, head of fitness at Leisure Connecton, said: 'I am extremely happy to welcome people into the centres to have a health check.

'I believe that National Heart Month will help highlight how to prevent heart disease and how to look after your heart moving forward.

'We aim to deliver a first class service to the people of West Devon and believe that free health checks will help encourage people to look after their hearts through a healthy and active lifestyle.'
